Nathan wakes up to find his uncle Cooper, Deb's brother, in his apartment. Deb called him to spend some time with his nephew. Cooper takes Nathan and Lucas on a road trip. Before leaving, Lucas hides the shredded documents in his closet.

In his class Andy is in for a nasty surprise. Dan is sitting among the students asking questions that imply Andy hired a private investigator to dig up dirt on a competitor and that he is having an affair with Karen, claiming that she gets good grades because of that. Andy stays calm, not taking the bait and asks Dan politely but firmly to leave.

Cooper is a race car driver and takes Nathan and Lucas out to his race track. The boys are thrilled. They get to meet Jeff Burton, who is a famous driver and Ray Greene, whose daughter Daytona knows Nathan from their childhood. She is happy to see him again. She introduces Lucas to her younger brother Garret/Jarod?. Cooper offers Nathan and Lucas to drive a race the next day, after taking a crash course first. They can't believe their luck. Daytona is showing them how to do it by taking them on a spin on the race track.

Brooke takes Peyton to Tric to cheer her up. Karen is there too and they are joined by Deb as well. Karen tells Deb that Dan paid Jules to sleep with Keith. She starts drinking. Later, she and the girls and also Karen start to dance. Andy walks in on them. He tells Karen that one of the students reported their relationship and that he has an appointment with the dean that evening.

Lucas and Nathan join Daytona at a camp fire. She starts playing the guitar, picking "When the stars go blue" to sing, the song Haley and Chris sung together. Nathan gets up and leaves. Cooper, who has three ex-wives, talks to Nathan about love and relationships. Ultimately, the question is, was it really true love for both of them and is it still?

Brooke takes Deb home who is pretty drunk. Deb is unhappy of having to go home. Brooke's next fair is Mouth. He pretends to be totally drunk, but actually he just wanted to hang out with Brooke. Brooke totally bought it, but is pleased to have Mouth's company. The next call comes from Erica Marsh. She was at a party that turned bad, she only called because she got scared. Mouth suggests they go get something to eat together. Erica starts to feel better.

Karen waits in the classroom for Andy to come back from the dean. Andy had been presented with two options, either to end the relation ship or lose his job. He quit. Andy tells Karen he can find a new teaching position, but he hopes there never will be another woman in his life. Karen is touched and kisses him. They embrace.

Dan walks into his office finding Andy sitting at his desk. Andy tells him that he lost his position today. Dan pretends to be surprised and sympathetic. Andy asks him if he believes in Karma. Dan says he doesn't. Andy is a big believer in Karma and tells Dan that Karma finds us all in time. Dan suggests Andy should take a job application. Andy declines.

After dinner Erica decides to walk home. She asks Mouth to walk with her. He asks Brooke if it's okay, she tells him to go ahead. Erica thanks Mouth for walking her home and she kisses him. Mouth is thrilled.

Peyton feels depressed and calls Brooke, asking if she reached the safe rides program. She wants to feel safe for a night.

The next morning Dan finds Deb lying in the flower bed in front of the house. He reaches over her to pick up the newspaper then he turns on the sprinkler. Deb is too zoned out to get up, even when the sprinklers wake her.

Chris gives final instructions and Daytona, Cooper, Nathan and Lucas get into their race cars. They are all enjoying themselves. When it is time to stop, Nathan ignores the instruction and goes on another round. He goes over the agreed upon speed limit and crashes into a wall. His car goes up in flames. Everyone is shocked. Cooper and Lucas pull him out of the car and call an ambulance. Nathan is rushed to hospital. He is conscious and asks Lucas to promise him not to call Haley.

Deb tells Dan that she will leave. She finally has enough of him. She tells him one of them will die soon, if she does not walk out. Just then the phone rings. Dan and Deb rush to the hospital. Deb offers to donate blood for Nathan who has lost a lot and has a rare blood type. But her blood proves to be unusable because of her addiction to prescription drugs. Dan is surprised, when he asks Deb why she is taking the pills she tells him it's because she is married to him. The doctors find another donor and Nathan is going into surgery. Dan starts hassling Cooper, blaming him for the accident. Andy, who has just arrived with Karen, holds him back. He asks Dan, how his Karma is.

Coach Durham calls on Peyton to tell her that Jenny is fine. The coach comforts her.
